Product registration in the EPREL (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) database is mandatory for certain energy-related products in the European Union.
In this guide, we list the product categories that must be registered in the EPREL database. We also explain how the process of registering on the EPREL works and address some key questions surrounding the topic of EPREL registration.

What is the EPREL database?
The EPREL is a product database that allows suppliers of energy-related products to input certain product information and create the energy labels for their products. While some of this information is publicly available, in order to benefit the consumers, some of the information is only available to the European Commission and the relevant authorities.
The information that suppliers should enter into the product database is listed in Annex I of the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation:
1. Information that should be entered in the public part of the database:
- Name or trademark, address, and contact details of the supplier
- Model identifier
- Label in electronic format
- Energy efficiency class(es) and other relevant parameters
- Parameters of the product information sheet
2. Information that should be entered in the compliance part of the database:
- Model identifier of all equivalent models already placed on the market
- Technical documentation as specified in Article 12 of the regulation
Using the EPREL, the supplier can generate the energy labels based on the data that it entered when registering its product models. At the same time, through the EPREL, consumers can access certain information about the product and compare its performance with other products.
The market surveillance authorities can also use the database to get access to compliance-related data (like the technical documentation).
Which products require EPREL registration?
Suppliers of energy-related products subject to delegated acts under the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation must register the product on the EPREL. Here are the product categories that require EPREL registration:
- Dishwashers
- Washing machines
- Washer-dryers
- Household tumble dryers
- Household, hotel and wine refrigerators
- Commercial refrigerators
- Tyres
- Light sources
- Smartphones and tablets
- Electronic displays
- Air conditioners
- Domestic ovens
- Range hoods
- Local space heaters
- Professional refrigerated storage cabinets
- Residential ventilation units
- Space heaters/Combination heaters
- Packages of space heaters/combination heaters
- Temperature controls for space heaters
- Solar devices for space heaters
- Water heaters
- Packages of water heaters
- Hot water storage tanks for water heaters
- Solar devices for water heaters
- Solid fuel boilers
- Packages of solid fuel boilers
How does the registration process work?
Step 1: Create your EPREL profile and add relevant information
The first step to register your products on the EPREL is to create an account, which can be done by heading to the “Profile creation + verification – Quick Guide” on the EU website, and clicking on “Energy Label”.
After you register, you must input some general information about your company (e.g. legal identity, supplier name, business registration ID, brands/trademarks) and ensure that the information is verified.
Step 2: Verify company information
The verification process of the company information is done electronically. You can find the details in the above-mentioned guide. Once the process is completed, you can start to upload your product data.
Step 3: Create product model
On the EPREL database, you can create product models and register your products by entering the required information (e.g. energy efficiency class). In this case, you can follow the guide “Registration Quick Guide” that is also published on the EU website.
Step 4: Generate labels, product information sheets, and QR codes
You can upload your own energy label or auto-generate the energy label directly on the database. You can also generate a product information sheet in different languages and a QR code.
Note that a “product information sheet” is defined in the regulation as a “standard document containing information relating to a product, in printed or electronic form”.
FAQ
How do I create an EPREL account?
You can create an EPREL account on the EU website, for example, by heading to the “Profile creation + verification – Quick Guide” and clicking on “Energy Label”.
To complete the process of creating an account, you have to ensure that your company is verified.
Is EPREL free?
Yes, suppliers can freely register their products in the EPREL database.
Is EPREL registration mandatory?
Yes, according to Article 4 of the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation, suppliers of covered products must register their products on the EPREL product database.
Can only EU companies register on EPREL?
Suppliers must register their products in the EPREL database. Under the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation, a supplier can be:
- An EU manufacturer
- An authorised representative of a non-EU manufacturer
- An EU importer
Thus, non-EU companies can only register their products on the EPREL database through their authorised representative.
Can non-EU companies register on EPREL?
As far as we understand, only suppliers based in the EU can register on the EPREL. This is also explained in the Energy Efficient Products FAQ, where we found that in the case of products manufactured by a company that is not established in the EU, only their representative or an EU importer can register in the EPREL.
What kind of data do I need to submit?
This depends on the requirements of the delegated acts under the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation that covers the product. For example, for light sources, Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/2015 requires suppliers to provide information from the product information sheet in the public part of the EPREL.
This includes, for example, the model identifier, lighting technology used, and product dimensions. The delegated act states that the content of the technical documentation found in Annex VI should be entered into the EPREL.
How do I know what to submit to EPREL?
The delegated acts under the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation contain requirements regarding what information needs to be submitted to the EPREL, according to your category of product. This includes information concerning your company and your products.
How do I create an energy label in EPREL?
On the EPREL, you will have the option to upload your own energy label or to auto-generate an energy label through the database, based on the information you have provided. To use the database, you must first create an account.
